The monument comprises a Class II henge of prehistoric date, visible as an upstanding monument. The monument was first scheduled in 1973, but an inadequate area was included to protect all of the archaeological remains. The present rescheduling rectifies this.
The monument lies mostly in arable land, on a SE-facing slope, at 255m OD. It is roughly oval on plan and measures 91m by 66m. The ditch measures 10.7m in average width and up to 0.5m in depth. The banks measure c1.8m high externally and 0.9m internally. Excavations at similar monuments have indicated that henges were used as ritual sites between 4000-5000 years ago, that the central area often contained burials and circles of timber posts, and that features of earlier and later periods often lie outside the henge.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area c20m across around them within which related features may be expected to be found. It is oval in shape and measures a maximum of 140m NNW-SSE by 110m transversely, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved example of its class, which has considerable potential to contribute to an understanding of ritual practice over a long period of prehistory.
