Description

The monument is a well preserved prehistoric burial mound with a standing stone erected on the east flank.

The mound measures 37m in diameter and 3.5m high. The stone is 1.5m high. There is evidence in crop growth of the existence of a ditch around the mound.

The area to be scheduled, to include the area of the possible ditch, measures 50m E to W by 60m N to S, as marked in red on the attached

map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved burial mound which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual. The monument is in addition important because an area of prehistoric land surface will be sealed beneath the mound; this might provide important information on early agriculture.
