The monument consists of a prehistoric stone circle.
The circle of 9 stones lies near the watershed of the Carsluith Burn and the Kirkdale Burn. It has a diameter of 10m, and is formed of stones no more than 0.6m high. At the centre is a large boulder 1.6m by 1.2m by 0.6m.
The area to be scheduled is a circle 30m across, to include the stone circle, central boulder and an area around in which evidence relating to their erection and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved stone circle of a form typical in Galloway. It has the potential, through excavation and analysis, to provide information about prehistoric ritual beliefs.
