Description

The monument comprises the remains of a prehistoric chambered burial cairn. When it was scheduled in 1933 an inadequate area was identified for protection. Hence this extension.

The cairn is about 24m by 20m across, and stands 2.5m high. There are traces of a central chamber and the entrance to this, from the SE, may be discerned amongst the tumbled stone. Two lintel stones survive in the passage.

The area now to be scheduled is circular, 40m in diameter and centred on the centre of the cairn. This area includes the cairn and an area around it where associated remains are likely to survive below ground level. The area is marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
