Description

The monument comprises a cairn of prehistoric date visible as a grass-covered mound. Roughly circular on plan and almost entirely grass-covered, the cairn measures 8.5m in diameter and stands 1m high. It has been damaged by stone-robbing on the NE perimeter, and a depression in the centre, 0.4m deep, may also signify disturbance. The monument is located on the summit of a rounded hillock about 8m in height and overlooks the flood-plain of the River Bellart.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material is likely to survive. It is circular in shape with a diameter of 10m, as marked in red on the accompanying map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to an understanding of prehistoric funerary and ritual practices. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
