The monument comprises a depopulated settlement of post-medieval date.
The monument is situated within woodland at about 170m OD and consists of the abandoned township of Torvuick. The township, as depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (1867), comprises one partially roofed and four unroofed buildings, an enclosure and a head-dyke. Four unroofed buildings, one enclosure and part of the head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1993).
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to survive. It is rectangular in shape, measuring 75m N-S by 70m E-W, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to an understanding of post-medieval settlement and economy. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
