The monument comprises an enclosure of prehistoric date, visible as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 15m OD. It comprises a sub-rectangular ditched enclosure, measuring about 9m N-S by 6m transversely, within a ditch about 1m wide. It may represent the foundation trench of a rectangular timber building.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 30m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

Statement of Scheduling

The site is a rectilinear enclosure evidenced through cropmarks recorded on oblique aerial photographs. Originally identified as an enclosure of prehistoric date, this site, while clearly an archaeological feature, cannot be definitely categorised in terms of its function or date. Examples of other rectilinear enclosures which are designated as being of national importance retain their field characteristics to a far greater degree than this site and can be positively identified as enclosed settlements through associated features such as roundhouses. Based on the current available evidence, the site therefore does not meet the criterion of national importance and has been removed from the schedule.
