The monument comprises a Roman road of late 1st century date, visible as a series of banks and ditches.
The road runs NNE-SSW through gently sloping farmland at around 60m OD. It originally linked Strageath Roman fort to Ardoch Roman fort. Most of the route has been ploughed out by modern agriculture or obscured by trees, but this section, approximately 220m long, has survived intact. It measures up to 8m wide, and stands up to 1.5m high with drainage ditches visible on both sides.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to survive. It is sub-rectangular, measuring about 240m NNE-SSW by 30m transversely, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to an understanding of the construction of Roman road networks. Its importance is enhanced by its proximity to Strageath Roman fort.
