Description

The monument consists of an enclosure formed by a grass-covered bank. The enclosure is approximately 60m by 50m overall, and the interior is formed by partial terracing of the hillside. On the highest terrace of the interior is a circular house-foundation 10.5m in overall diameter. The entrance to the enclosure is in the NE. The area to be scheduled is an oval measuring 80m EW by 70m NS, as delineated in red on the attached plan.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved example of a small scooped homestead of later prehistoric date. The terracing of the enclosure interior suggests that buried soils may be present, with potential for recovery of environmental evidence.
