The monument is a burial cairn of the early Bronze Age measuring 7.6m in diameter and 0.25m in height surrounded by a narrow penannular ditch up to 1.9m broad. It occupies the summit of a knoll some 230m W of Eskdalemuir Manse. Burials will survive beneath and possibly within the mound; informed opinion would suggest that broadly contemporary burials and the remains of ceremonial activities will survive in the area around. An area 40m in diameter is proposed for scheduling .

The monument is of national importance to the themes of early Bronze Age burial and ceremonial activity. It is of particular interest because few small burial mounds of this period have survived in this area.
