Description

The monument is a farmstead of the late Medieval period contained within an enclosure 20.5m E-W by 15.5m transversely. The bank is 2.2m thick and 0.2m high at the N side, where best preserved. Within the enclosure are the remains of three rectangular buildings, erected on platforms formed by digging a scoop into the hillside and dumping the spoil as an apron in front.

The first building measures 12.5m E-W by 5.5m transversely. The second measures 9.7m E-W by 4.7m transversely. The third measures 9.4m E-W by 6.3m transversely. There are associated banks to N and SE. An area a maximum of 60m N-S by 70m transversely bounded on the W by a fence and on the S by a dyke is proposed for scheduling.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance to the theme of pre-improvement rural settlement. Study of the site in conjuntion with other broadly similar sites nearby would be of national importance to the theme of pre-improvement rural economy. The monument has good field characteristics.
