Description

The monument consists of a substantial prehistoric hut circle on sloping heather-covered moorland.

The hut circle is 8.5m in diameter within a wall which is 2.5m wide at the entrance, in the E, but slightly narrower elsewhere. Large blocks of stone placed on edge, spaced intermittently, define the inner wall face. Near to the inner face of the wall in the NE arc a single earthfast stone, almost completely buried, may indicate traces

of internal partitions of the floor-space within the round house. There is no obvious trace of contemporary cultivation in the area around the hut.

The area to be scheduled measures 40m in diameter, to include the hut circle and an area around in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the hut may survive, as shown in red on the accompanying map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance for its potential contribution to an understanding of prehistoric domestic life and architecture. The hut circle is situated in close proximity to a group of wags and the association of the two monuments increases the value of the hut circle.
