Description

The remains of a chambered cairn measuring about 20m in diameter. Near the centre eight upright stones indicate the position of the burial chamber and passage. The area to be scheduled measures 45m in diameter to include the structures described above and an area around them in which traces of activities associated with their use will survive, as depicted in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The site is of national importance because it can give us a greater understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual practice. It is of further importance because pollen and features buried beneath the cairn's surface can enhance our understanding of the environment and land use immediately prior to the construction of the cairn.
