Description

The monument is a prehistoric burial mound. A low, approximately circular, mound measuring 23m in diameter is

capped by a concentric inner mound 16m in diameter. The overall height of the mound is 1.5m. It is flat topped.

The area to be scheduled measures 40m in diameter, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved burial mound which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual practice. The monument is in addition important because an area of prehistoric land surface will be sealed beneath the mound; this might provide important information on early agriculture.
