The monument is a single platform scooped into the SE flank of the hillside N of Carle Gill and 100m W of the track which climbs the hillside from the public road bridge over the burn. The platform is 14.4m in diameter, and represents the site of a prehistoric house. The area to be scheduled is a square, 50m on each side, oriented NW- SE and centred on the centre of the platform, as delineated in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a good field example of an isolated platform house site which seems to have been isolated when built, rather than being part of a largely destroyed settlement. The archaeological evidence preserved may shed light on the relationship between individual and grouped platform sites, in terms of both date and function.
