The monument is the remains of a farmstead of the period before the agricultural improvements of the 18th and 19th centuries, situated on a terrace above the Mill Burn. It was recorded as ?Donnahill? on an estate map of 1718. It comprises two rectangular platform buildings, the larger of which (measuring 14.2m by 3.1m internally) is set parallel to the contours ? this is unusual. Around it lie fragmentary traces of its associated field system. A small sample of this is included in the scheduling. An area measuring a maximum of 250m (WSW-ESE) by 60m transversely is proposed for scheduling. The fabric above ground of the modern sheepfold which lies in the area, is specifically excluded.

The monument is a well preserved example of its type. Archaeological excavation of the farmstead and of the surviving field banks and rig-and-furrow would provide important information on the way of life and agricultural system of the inhabitants. The monument is of national importance to the theme of pre-improvement settlement and agriculture. Taken with the broadly contemporary sites both of similar and different types in the area, the monument is of national importance to the theme of the organisation of the pre-improvement landscape.
