The monument consists of a prehistoric enclosure which is situated on level ground on the SW flank of Swaites Hill, 190m WSW of the large neolithic enclosure at Blackhouse Burn.
Subcircular on plan, the enclosure measures 48m by 43m within a stony bank about 10m in average thickness and 0.6m in height. There is an entrance on the NE, 3m in width.
The area to be scheduled is subcircular on plan and measures up to 120m in diameter to include the enclosure and an area around in which traces of activities associated with its construction and use may survive.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to provide information about prehistoric social organisation (of a domestic and/or ritual nature) and because of its possible relationship with the extremely unusual neolithic ritual enclosure at Blackhouse Burn.
