Sheep Hill,fort,Auchentorlie

A Scheduled Monument in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire

Sheep Hill from Bowling Harbour

Uploader's Comments

There are the remains of two Iron-age forts on the summit of Sheep Hill and maybe an association between them and nearby cup & ring rock carvings (perhaps towards the end of the Bronze Age 8th or 9th century B.C.) Unfortunately the cup & ring stones have been removed to allow the area to be quarried. This could be a unique relationship hitherto unknown in archaeology. (Source Dr Euan W. MacKie MA PhD FSA)

Sheephil has current planning consent to be quarried away
