A Scheduled Monument in Old Town, East Sussex

Bronze Age barrow on Willingdon Hill.

Uploader's Comments

This bowl barrow was reused as a windmill-stead in the Middle Ages. The later windmill, which was called Willingdon or Jevington stood just south of the barrow and was marked on Richard Budgeon's map of 1724. This post mill was destroyed by a storm in 1817 and was replaced by the existing tower mill in Polegate in the same year.. Alex Vincent.
