Round barrow on Siss Cross Hill, 750m north west of Black Beck Swang

A Scheduled Monument in Lockwood, Redcar and Cleveland

Siss Cross at NZ 70322 10611

Uploader's Comments

About a third of a mile to the south of the round barrow is what is known as Siss Cross, this is at NZ 70322 10611. It is not thought to be part of the original cross but a stone pillar replacement acting as a waymarker. An old packhorse route runs close by called the Pannierman’s Causeway which ran from Castleton to Staithes. This photo of the cross is looking in an easterly direction and was taken at the end of October 2013
