Castle Bytham Castle

SK 990 185. South south west aspect. Motte and bailey castle. Here, an inner bailey presents as a lumpy doughnut shape on the left of the photo. The motte is to the right of this, above the right hand gable of the cottage with the white dormer windows. Motte and inner bailey are enclosed by an earthwork bank. A lower earthwork bank encloses these and an outer bailey which follows the tree line to the right edge of the photo. The cows in the picture are inside this. The motte is in the centre of the castle as described. There are other associated earthworks, but these are not pictured here. (Photo Aug 2007).
