Bowl barrows at Rookery Hill, Bishopstone, East Sussex

Uploader's Comments

A group of Bronze Age barrows form a line on Rookery Hill at Bishopstone. One of these barrows is a barrow mill, where a medieval windmill reused it as its base. There is a large hollow in the barrow where the mill once stood. Medieval windmills were smaller than the later ones and were open trestle sunken post mills. This medieval windmill is one of the earliest windmills recorded in Sussex. Alex Vincent.
