Description

The monument comprises the remains of five round barrows or burial cairns, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 800 BC). The barrows lie in an area to the northwest of Maen Achwyfan (FL005), and southeast of Berthengam village, and are identified alphabetically as Barrow A, B, C, D and E.

The monuments are of national importance for their potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual. The monuments are an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retain significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability the presence of both intact burial or ritual deposits and environmental and structural evidence, including buried prehistoric land surfaces.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
