Description

The monument comprises a prehistoric chambered burial cairn. It is already scheduled, but this rescheduling extends the protected area to provide more adequate protection to the area of archaeological significance.

The cairn stands on a ridge at about 280m OD. It measures approximately 18m to 20m across, and stands up to 2m in height. A central chamber has been revealed by past stone-robbing, and a large dislodged slab may represent a capstone.

The area now to be scheduled is circular, 40m in diameter and centred on the cairn, to include the cairn and an area around it in which evidence relating to its construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
