The monument consists of a stretch of substantial rubble-built masonry walling on Canmore Street in Dunfermline, to the north-east of the Benedictine abbey church, and thought to be a part of the north wall of the abbey precinct. The area to be scheduled is that occupied by the wall and its immediate environs, extending to about 15m long and 1m across, and marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
