Description

The monument comprises an area of ground containing Bronze Age cremation burials, most probably dating to the Middle Bronze Age, approximately from 1500 to 1200 BC.

The Dinwoodie Mains cremation cemetery was discovered during trial excavations in 1993. It occupies the crest of spur running S from Watch Hill. Ten burials, shown by fragments of burnt bone and charcoal, were identified in a limited area opened, including 3 with pottery vessels accompanying the remains. The vessels were classified as collared urns.

The area to be scheduled is an irregular quadrilateral measuring a maximum of 120m N-S by 70m E-W, to include the area excavated and an area around it in which further burials are likely to survive. The area is shown in red on the accompanying map extract.
