Description

The monument is a burial cairn of the neolithic or Bronze Age situated at the N end of Cairn Hill. It measures about 28m in diameter and up to 1.4m high. Small quarry pits in the cairn matrix have not affected the important base of the monument. An enclosure measuring 9.5m in diameter within a stony bank 3m thick and up to 0.4m high overlies the SE edge of the cairn.

The area to be scheduled includes the cairn, the enclosure, and an area around them within which traces of activity associated with their use may befound. It measures 50m in diameter, centred on the monument but excluding the land to the N of the march dyke between South Cairnand North Cairn, as marked in red on the attached map.
