The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved standing stone and associated area of ground which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric ceremonial and burial practices. It is of particular importance because of the survival in the area of a number of other stones which are probably of similar date and function; comparison of the group as a whole would be of value.
