Description

The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies on a low ridge in arable farmland at around 230m OD. It comprises a sub-circular enclosure of approximately 50m in maximum diameter. Its single ditch is some 2-3m wide. Cropmarks relating to former field boundaries appear to truncate the E part of the enclosure.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible remains and an area around them in which traces of related activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 100m as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national important for its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. The ditches of the enclosure may be expected to contain material relating to the economy and environment of the site.
