Description

The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of later prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 100m OD. It comprises a sub-square enclosure of which the NW and SW sides are clearly visible, each measuring approximately 50m. The ditch is about 5m wide. There is an entrance in the SE part of the NW side.

The monument is characteristic of a series of enclosed settlements thought to date to the period of Roman influence in southern Scotland.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 110m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
