Description

The monument comprises the remains of an unenclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial phototgraphs.

The monument lies on level ground in arable farmland at around 110m OD. It comprises a group of at least 6 former timber roundhouses represented by dark circular cropmarks, forming a rough line approximately E-W. They range in diameter up to approximately 12m. The site is one of a number of prehistoric domestic sites in this area.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the settlement and an area around it in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is irregular in shape with maximum dimensions of 120m E-W by 100m N-S as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. Its importance is enhanced by its proximity to sites of potentially contemporary date.
